What seeds are you planting? Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism

What seeds are you planting?

There is a specific sect in Buddhism called Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism with a global organization by the name of the Soka Gakkai.   They have a specific chant that they perform facing a scroll, a mandala inscribed by Nichiren Daishonin, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law. This sect chants for the wisdom to recognize their moment-to-moment causes. They believe in karma – the accumulation of your moment-to-moment causes leading you in a certain direction, propelling you toward a certain tendency.

The members of this organization chant in the morning and evening toward this scroll – the Gohonzon. The chant is called nam myoho renge kyo – it’s a chant for compassion to all living beings, the wisdom to recognize one’s moment-to-moment causes, and the courage to choose consistent with one’s highest self.

The word nam stands for devotion and myoho stands for the mystic law, the manifestation of our thoughts, words, and actions.

The mystic law in Buddhism is the law of cause and effect.  Every cause, no matter how big or small, whether it’s a thought, a word, or a deed, is a seed that is planted. That seed will germinate and grow, and when appropriate conditions are present, it will flower and blossom.  This sect of Buddhism teaches to recognize which seeds you’re planting.  Are those seeds consistent with elevating your own nature?  Do the seeds you plant support everyone around you toward manifesting peace and prosperity for all?

So nam stands for devotion, myoho stands for the mystic law.  Renge stands for the simultaneity between cause and effect.  You cannot have a cause without an effect; the two always go hand in hand.

Kyo stands for the sutra, and that is the sutra of the teaching of the Soka Gakkai, the organization that represents Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism.

So the chant is namu myoho renge kyo.

Once we take ownership for everything happening in our lives, then we feel empowered to transform.  Realize that we live in a universe of infinite possibilities. Quantum physics, (the study of the nature of existence) explains that right now billions of bits of information dance around us. You can choose which bits you notice.  Recognize the opportunities, notice your cause and effect, and then focus toward your highest self.
